In this presentation Bronagh will explore how school leaders can help pupils and parents build resilience when motivation is low and challenges feel overwhelming—especially in communities affected by socio-economic deprivation. She will consider the impact of poverty on resilience (How financial stress, housing insecurity, and limited resources affect coping and engagement); common barriers (Parents under pressure, pupils facing instability, and mental health struggles) and leadership strategies (trauma-informed approaches; building trust and reducing stigma; partnering with community services and celebrating small wins to foster hope. Bronagh has devoted her professional life to education since 1989, teaching in Northern England, Southern Ireland, and across Northern Ireland’s former education and library boards. This year marks 20 years of her leadership as a school Principal. Currently based in North Belfast, Bronagh is passionate about fostering collaboration and building community, working closely with colleagues in the North Belfast Primary Principals group to make a positive impact on the lives of children and their families.
