Gareth will explore a proven, tiered strategy for embedding Cognitive Science and Metacognition across an entire educational system. Drawing on experience working with trainee teachers through to governors, he will explore a holistic framework for translating learning theory into high-quality classroom practice and strategic oversight. He will focus on the importance of building foundational knowledge in concepts like cognitive load theory, utilising structured models to bridge theory and pedagogy, and securing system-wide buy-in to drive measurable school improvement. Gareth is a consultant with 10 years’ experience within the School Improvement Team at Education North Tyneside. He works collaboratively with leaders and practitioners across all school phases to drive and sustain meaningful school improvement. He has a particular interest in research-informed practice, with a focus on applying the principles of cognitive science and metacognition to enhance teaching and learning.
